Walk out of a Beatz RIDE lately and not even realize you’ve just performed at your peak for an entire 50-minutes? Believe it or not, that was all by design. We’re lucky to have our amazing instructors learning from fitness industry titan, Doris Thews as our VP of group fitness, innovation and motivation. She’s been a leader in the fitness industry for over 30 years.

She is an award winning, fitness educator and international master trainer for ShockWave, Indo-Row, Schwinn, and Bosu. She’s a Lead Ryka Fit Pro Brand Ambassador and a Power Music Advisory Board Member and in 2017 was a finalist for IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year and won Empower Fitness Conference Presenter of the Year.

Needless to say, we’re excited to have her leading our group fitness team and dedicating hours of time and lots of energy to coming up with incredible programing that’s motivating, on trend and gives you an incredible workout experience.

With so much experience in the fitness world and lots of lessons learned, we sat Doris down for a rapid fire question and answer sesh to get the low down on the lady behind the RIDE.

What should everyone do at least once in their life? I think there are two things everyone should do: Have a dream or a bucket list and MAKE IT HAPPEN! Even if you don’t tick everything off the list! Travel internationally to see different cultures and to understand we are all the same. If there is one thing I’ve learned is the power of the language of movement! Everyone understands it. Movement is universal. What brings you the most happiness in your life? Spending time with my family. What pair of Ryka shoes is your current favorite? You are an ambassador after all! The Devotion XT – they power me running through an airport, lifting weight on the gym floor at In-Shape, or through a group fitness class Who are your heroes? Oprah is definitely a hero – she educates, elevates and celebrates people and yet she is so down to Earth. I admire in her what I aspire to be. What’s your favorite vegetable? Kale – I love it in a salad, baked as a substitute for chips, or a smoothie. It’s a powerhouse. What’s your favorite indulgence? Red wine and a little chocolate. How often do you exercise? I don’t like the word exercise. I like the word movement. I move everyday a minimum of 30 minutes a day and train 6 days a week. I mix it up with yoga, cross training, running, developing new content, and trying the latest and greatest fitness trends. On days I’m not training, I like to play – surfing, paddle boarding or gardening. What is your favorite type of exercise? Or movement I guess we should say! My favorite thing is running. It’s an opportunity to check in and be with myself. I’ve trained and completed four of the six world master marathons. How many miles did you log on the bike when creating Beatz RIDE? 1 million! Ha, just kidding. It was so much fun I didn’t even count. What’s your favorite section in the current Beatz RIDE release? Probably the warm up because it’s so welcoming and it gives me the opportunity to connect with everyone. It’s engaging, and it’s motivating. I love that when members walk through the studio door, they get to leave the real world and come into the Beatz world for a 50-minute performance party. How many hours of sleep do you get in a night? 7-8 Do you have a favorite quote? If so, what is it? “Successful people do what others won’t” If you put in that 1 % more, it will pay off. Maybe that’s staying on the treadmill for 5 more minutes, maybe it’s lifting that weight that’s just little bit heavier. I’m a firm believe that it’s the 1 per cent you do every day that adds up over a lifetime. What’s your favorite way to de-stress? A restorative yoga class or a massage Who are your fitness heroes? Richard Simmons . He brought fitness to everyone of all shapes and sizes and he is an incredible human. What’s your favorite thing about In-Shape? That’s easy, the people! Our members are remarkable and we have the best people working at In-Shape.
