At my heaviest, I weighed in at 425 pounds. I was in my early 30’s, already had extremely high blood pressure, pre-diabetic, sedentary and morbidly obese. Growing up I was always bullied and struggled with my weight. As an adult, I couldn’t fit into restaurant booths, had to wear a seat belt extender in my car, couldn’t fit in an airplane seat and would get out of breath from walking. I was depressed and concerned that I wouldn’t live a long life.

 

On April 1, 2012, something finally clicked. A switch went off and I knew it was time to make a change. Everyone seemed so excited for me that I was completely committing myself to a new way of life. I didn’t want to call it a diet. I wanted it to be a lifestyle change. My first week I lost 13.7 pounds! I couldn’t believe in such a short time period I lost that much weight.

 

After three months of eating right, I decided the next step in my journey was to join a local gym. I signed up for an In-Shape membership and met with a trainer for my one free session. At first, I couldn’t even manage 5 minutes on the elliptical. It felt like my legs were going to fall off! By November of 2012, I was working out 3-4 times per week and had lost 100 pounds! I was so very proud of myself - I had gone from a size 30/32 to a size 10.

 

Now I’m active, tried snowboarding for the first time and can kill an hour on the elliptical machine! I impress myself daily with my ongoing success and motivation. I still have 30 pounds I’d like to lose and I’m confident I’ll get there!
