Suspension training has taken the fitness industry by storm, and there’s no question why. It’s incredibly effective, everyone can do it, and it’s a simple way to do A LOT with very little.  Dig into the details below on the ins and outs of suspension training to find out why YOU should add it to your weekly workout routine.

What is suspension training?

You know those black and yellow ‘TRX’ straps you see at all In-Shape Health Clubs? That’s what we’re talking about. Developed by a Navy Seal, the TRX suspension training straps leverage gravity and your body weight to perform hundreds of exercises from a set of 7 foundational movements.  Suspension training delivers a full body workout developing strength, balance and core stability. So, basically, it’s a total body tone up using straps and your body weight.

Why you should add it to your weekly workout routine:

1. It’s super effective.

Trainers swear by its effectiveness and when they’re delivering results for multiple clients a week using these straps, we can’t help but get on board. It’s a total body workout and because of the positioning, it will activate your core during every exercise which is why we say training on the suspension trainer is all core, all the time.  Working out with the TRX suspension training straps increases muscular endurance and mobility, challenges balance, promotes heart health and visibly tones the entire body.

2. It’s for everybody and every body.

It’s a great tool for people of all fitness levels – from newbie to elite athlete – as you can increase the intensity simply by adjusting your position closer or farther away from the anchor point. You’re in complete control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise by adjusting your body position to change your center of gravity. Any person can reach any goal at any pace.

3. It’s simple.

Once you understand and learn the seven foundational movements (plank, push, pull, rotate, hinge, squat, and lunge), you can create hundreds of different workout routines to tone the entire body. Adjusting the intensity is just as easy.  Because suspension training uses gravity for your resistance, by simply moving your hands or feet you can adjust the difficulty. So, it’s always easy to level up (or down if you’re beat!).

Even though it’s a simple concept, it can be super intimidating to get started which is why throughout the month of May In-Shape Health Clubs is offering FREE TRX demos every Tuesday at 9 am and 5 pm.

Suspension training is a great way to get a fast and effective total body workout. Plus, when you hear JLo uses the TRX to tone up, then you know it’s worth trying! Happy hanging!
