Antioxidant Powerhouse Smoothie Recipe
Antioxidants are key to anti-aging, preventing chronic diseases, decreasing inflammation, and protecting against cancer and other neurological diseases.
Not only are blackberries loaded with vitamins C, A, E, K and B, but they bring a massive serving of antioxidants to the table. They’re also low in calories, full of fiber and good for your brain. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published a study that found the high antioxidant levels in blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and other berries may help prevent age-related memory loss.
Add pomegranates to the mix and you’re filling your smoothie with good-for-you minerals like copper, potassium, folate, manganese, thiamin, and lots of antioxidant polyphenols. Pomegranates are unique in that they contain not just one type of antioxidant, but four– tannins, anthocyanins, ellagic acid and punicalagin. Research shows these antioxidants can help reduce heart disease.
Whip this treat up at the start of your day or for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Blend these ingredients together until desired consistency and enjoy!

- ½ cup pomegranate juice
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup blackberries
- ½ cup strawberries
- 2 teaspoons flax seeds
- 1 cup chopped kale
- ½ inch ginger, peeled
- ¼ cup ice
