Get Your Protein With Chia Seeds
Did you know that chia seeds have more iron than spinach and twice the potassium of bananas? Chia seeds are also a great source of fiber and a complete protein. No wonder they’re considered a superfood!
You've probably mixed some chia seeds into a jar of overnight oats, but here are some easy, creative ways you can use this amazing superfood to amp up your protein intake.
Make a pudding
Your milk alternative of choice + chia seeds + vanilla extract + frozen berries = delicious Chia Seed Pudding! This one is fun to make with your kids.
Add ‘em to dip
Add a protein punch to your hummus or guac – chia seeds are nearly flavorless, so they’ll add a gelatin texture to your favorite dips without sacrificing flavor. They’re also great in smoothies.
Sprinkle on salads, eggs, whatever!
Add a little crunch to your leafy greens by sprinkling chia seeds on top of your dressing just before eating. Sprinkle chia seeds on eggs, into a stir fry, or anywhere else you’d like a nutrition boost.
Add a crumb coating to meat
When you grind up chia seeds (you can use a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder), you can mix them up with your favorite breadcrumb coating or use it to replace your breadcrumbs altogether. Try this crispy coating on chicken or fish!
Add it to your tea
It doesn’t get much easier than this! Just add one tablespoon of chia seeds to 16 ounces of tea—hot or iced is fine. Let the seeds expand for a few minutes, and then enjoy. Still not easy enough? You can add them to a plain glass of water, too.
