How to Make Healthier Ice Cream
Treat Yourself with Ice Cream
As our days get warmer we start craving cold treats. What treat gets colder than ice cream? July 17th is National Ice Cream Day and we want our members to celebrate with an #inshapeattitude.
Ice cream is typically made with milk, cream, sugar, and eggs which leads to high fat and calorie content. The trick to making a healthier option is to substitute ingredients. Frozen bananas are a great substitute because they offer a creamy texture. Just blend and add any flavorings or toppings for a low fat treat.
Another way to substitute high fat ingredients is to use frozen fruit. This will give you a sorbet treat. You can use any frozen fruit and blend with yogurt to make it creamy. Feel free to mix in other ingredients to make your own flavor!
Overall, treats like ice cream are okay in moderation. Feel free to make some ice cream, and enjoy it too! If you need inspiration, here are two recipes to try for National Ice Cream Day. Treat yo’self and stay cool this summer!
