Meet Will: Les Mills International Master Trainer
Will Pritchard travels the globe training potential and current fitness instructors on how to be the best they can be. When he isn’t jet setting, we’re lucky to have Will as a manager of education and training for group fitness as well as a group fitness instructor.
We love his high energy, fun, and motivating style and if his full classes are anything to go by, you do too. We sat down with Will to learn a little bit more about what it means to be a Master Trainer and how his passion for fitness led him to a career at In-Shape.
Can you tell me about your career?
I started as a Group Fitness instructor about 12 years ago in New Zealand. I’ve always had a passion for travel and love empowering people and I saw Master Trainers travelling domestically and educating people that were passionate about fitness – I knew it was the next step for me. In this role, I extended my reach internationally and started facilitating education sessions around the world. A few years later, I relocated to the US to continue my passion and grow in my career. I started at In-Shape as part of the team that restructured the Group Fitness offering and now here I am!
You’ve got an accent, where are you from and how long have you been in CA?
Yes, I do, I was born in New Zealand but raised in Samoa. I’ve lived in CA for five years.
How many classes do you teach per week?
Approximately 3-4 classes a week.
How many days do you train per week?
Outside of classes that I teach I train five days a week. I love my weekends, so those days are off.
What do you use to fuel your workouts?
Usually, I have some form of pre-workout or just a big cup of coffee and off I go.
What’s the hardest part about being an instructor?
For the most part there isn’t one! If I had to choose, personally, it would be my accent. The Kiwi (what New Zealanders are known as) accent and terminology is tough for many people to understand!
What’s the best part about being an instructor?
Hands down the best part is when someone achieves their fitness goals doing my classes – whether that’s weight loss, muscle gain or building confidence – it warms my heart and soul when I hear that.
What is your favorite way to work out?
I love lifting heavy weights. It’s the best.
Have you always been passionate about fitness?
Yes, it started with my rugby days in school.
Did you choose to work at In-Shape because of your love for fitness?
Yes, and it was an incredible career opportunity. I was offered a chance to change the face of Group Fitness at In-Shape. I knew it would be a challenge, but it was something I couldn’t say no to!
What’s your favorite vegetable? I love cucumbers (cooked or raw) and asparagus.
What’s your least favorite vegetable? Definitely broccoli!!!
What’s your favorite way to indulge? Without a doubt burgers and fries followed by a big bowl of ice cream.
How much water do you drink every day? I have a big gallon of water I carry around with me everywhere.
What should everyone do at least once in their life?
They should do something that fills up their soul, whether that’s building a well in Africa, serving the homeless on Thanksgiving or simply travelling the world to experience different cultures and people. Do something that fills your soul!
What brings you the most happiness in your life?
My 9 going on 15-year-old daughter. She brings joy and fulfillment to my life.
Who are your heroes?
I have been so fortunate to cross paths with many influential people that have impacted my life in so many ways – there are just too many to name. I don’t have any heroes as such but many positive influences in my life.
How many hours of sleep do you get in a night?
It varies from day to day some between 5-6 hours and other times its 6-8 hours.
Do you have a favorite quote?
If so, what is it? Some might say it’s cheesy, but since it’s a play on my name, and I love what it stands for, I’ve used it for a long time. “Where there’s a Will, there’s a way!”
What’s your favorite thing about In-Shape?
I love that at In-Shape we are all aligned on one goal – to make a difference in people’s lives through health and fitness. When a company works together toward a common goal, it’s inspiring and motivating to come to work. I love it!
