Love all the nutrients in your favorite smoothie but hate the blood sugar spike and occasional slump some can cause? Like most things, it’s all about the right balance. Fruit is amazing for all the vitamins and antioxidants, but too much of it in one smoothie can cause a major spike in your insulin level thanks to the high sugar content. Keep this in mind when you’re creating your own or trying new smoothie recipes. We like to balance it out with lots of green veggies like kale or spinach, healthy fats from nut butter, seeds or avocado, and a dose of protein powder to curb the hunger longer. Try this month’s recharge card recipe to shape your morning without the sugar crash!

What you need:

1 cup water

1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 serving vanilla or chocolate protein powder

1 large handful of spinach

1/4 of an avocado

1/4 cup frozen blueberries

2 Tbsp ground flax seed

1 Tsp cinnamon
