As Christy M., a member from In-Shape Lancaster believes, “You’re always one decision away from a totally different life.” And it was her decision to join In-Shape and start working out with a personal trainer that changed her life for good.

In April 2015, Christy and her cousins, aunts and sister traveled to Seattle, and spent the day walking the city to see the sights. Feeling like she was holding them back and physically spent from the exertion, she knew she wanted to change. But it was seeing a group photo from the trip later that day, that was the final piece to the motivation puzzle she needed.

Having tried and failed with many gym memberships, she chose In-Shape to help her achieve her goals. She also signed up with the personal training team for accountability and creativity with work outs. Jessica, Christy’s trainer, keeps things fresh with lots of variety, and the perfect combination of cardio and weight lifting for Christy’s body.

Jessica recommended Christy start logging her meals in a food journal which helped her balance her calorie intake and energy output. She also transformed her diet from 6 cans of Mountain Dew a day and fast food late at night to a plant based lifestyle filled with delicious meals she cooks at home.

She started with a basic routine to slowly reintroduce working out to her body. After a few weeks getting back in the swing of things, Jessica transitioned her to more intense training by mixing cardio, weight lifting and introducing weight to running – something Christy is passionate about and thoroughly enjoys.

She started seeing results but was sidelined by some heart troubles. She started experiencing a rapid heart rate when at rest, dizziness, syncope, and fainting. Her heart rate fluctuated dramatically and was rushed to the emergency room 10 times in 6 months. After extensive testing, twice weekly hospital visits, and appointment with specialist after specialist, Christy was finally diagnosed with Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, also known as POTS.

In Christy’s words, “Throughout this difficult time, Jessica was a gem. She was very attentive, concerned and adapted my program based on the advice of my doctors. She was more than a trainer to me.”

“When I was hospitalized, she texted me regularly. During one stay, I woke up to find as many as 20 text messages from her and missed calls from 6 other staff members. In-Shape feels like a family.”

Christy has now lost a total of 230 pounds. With her condition under control and her new vegan lifestyle, Christy has become a total ‘gym rat’ and credits Jessica and the team at In-Shape for helping her achieve her goals.

Christy is an inspiration to all of us at In-Shape – her hard work and dedication to her new lifestyle are truly remarkable. We are so proud of you Christy and love your positive outlook. We’re lucky to have you as part of our #fitfam.
