The average American consumes about 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat during a Thanksgiving meal.1  Rather than harping on portion control, please enjoy this special food holiday!

With that said, completing a simple pre-meal workout that maximizes calorie burn will limit the damage from excessive eating. Most In-Shape Clubs will be open during Thanksgiving morning to provide members with the opportunity to work out. This is a great time to give the Inch Worm a try!

How to Do an Inch Worm Exercise

The Inch Worm is a fantastic exercise for many reasons. First, you use your own body weight, so the chance for injury is low. It is also a very functional movement that involves a number of muscles working together including the arms, chest, core and upper back. Finally, it doesn’t require any equipment.


Just find an open space on the floor in the gym. Brace your core and hinge forward at the hips. Allow your hands to touch the floor.


Take small “steps” with your hands forward until they are in front of your head and shoulders.


Return to the start position by keeping your core braced and taking small “steps” backward with your hands. We recommend doing about 10 - 20 reps.
