Candiss H B/AFor as long as I can remember, I have always been heavy. It wasn't until having two high risk pregnancies when I started to really pack on the weight. I went from 180 lbs. to over 250 lbs. in just three years. I started to notice that I was the heaviest person in the room everywhere I went, so often times I was reluctant to go to public places. I became fearful of restaurants and not being able to fit in booths to enjoy a meal. I would experience horrifying moments, such as the time I was kicked off a kiddie ride with my son when the seat belt wouldn't hook over my lap. My then 5-year-old told me he wished I was skinny and I knew then that I needed to make a change.


In January of 2014, I wore a size 20/22 and at only 5'3", I was more round than tall. After having gastric bypass surgery in April of 2014 and working out at a fitness studio 5 days a week, I was immediately hooked on a new fitness regimen. Earlier this year, I became a member of the In-Shape community & I've lost a total of 110 lbs. since the start of my journey. When I joined the fitness studio, I quickly realized how much of a fan I was of group exercise classes and with In-Shape having so many group classes to choose from it makes staying motivated that much easier. The classes available work perfectly with my busy schedule and I love that I am able to make it to so many group fitness classes.


Recently, I went back to work as a Realtor and one of my hobbies listed in my bio section is a "fitness enthusiast." Three years ago, fitness enthusiast wasn't even in my vocabulary and now it’s what my life is all about; I couldn't be more thankful. I no longer worry about seat belts or restaurant booths, I can play with my kids without getting winded and I am more confident than ever to try new activities.
