In-Shape Health Clubs Partners with Special Olympics
STOCKTON, Ca. SEPTEMBER 2, 2020: In-Shape Health Clubs, California’s top community destination for health and fitness, announced a partnership with The Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada to provide free virtual fitness classes and sponsorships for In-Shape’s virtual races.
In March, In-Shape closed over 60 locations in California and laid off 95% of their workforce resulting in zero revenue as a result. But they remained focused on motivating their communities to stay healthy, fit and happy. They were thrilled to partner with the Special Olympics and have their Coaches host free workouts for the Special Olympics’ Athletes via Zoom as part of Special Olympics’ “Flex-it-Friday. They also sponsored Special Olympic Athletes to participate in In-Shape’s third virtual 5k/10k race this summer.
“In-Shape is committed to keeping California healthy despite the toll this shutdown has taken on our business. Our partnership with the Special Olympics to provide access to free fitness classes, without charging membership dues for the last five months, is another example of how our team always does the right thing,” said Francesca Schuler, CEO of In-Shape Health Clubs.
In-Shape Coaches have created a safe and motivating environment with workouts that infuse fun into fitness while accommodating athletes ranging from nine-65 years old and varying fitness levels.
“The free virtual workouts from In-Shape have been great to incorporate into our Health & Fitness @ Home program,” said Amanda Young, Healthy Athletes Program Manager of Special Olympics Northern California & Nevada. “Keeping our athletes fit and connected during the pandemic is critical to both their physical and mental health – and we appreciate In-Shape helping us to support this mission.”
Access to fitness and inspiring exercise programs is especially important to all communities right now as it strengthens the immune system. Providing this, at no cost,
In fact, according to Dr. David Nieman, “Fitness can literally fight Covid-19 because exercise stimulates the ongoing exchange of the leukocytes, or “fighter cells” between the circulation and tissues. This enhances viral and immune defense. For high risk populations, exercise is incredibly important and should be the first line of defense when done in a safe, clean environment.”
“We are committed, even in the toughest of times, to providing a motivating environment for all communities to stay healthy, fit and happy,” Ms. Schuler finished.
